Human Rights Center Reports 154 Civilian Casualties in Taiz Due to Houthi Attacks
A report by the Taiz Rights Center has documented 154 civilian casualties resulting from Houthi militia attacks in the southwestern Yemeni governorate of Taiz between October 1 and October 26.
The center stated that the casualties include 44 fatalities and 110 injuries, primarily caused by artillery shelling, missile strikes, and direct sniper fire. The data highlights a disproportionate impact on vulnerable populations, noting that women and children account for a significant portion of the total, with 47 women and 51 children among the victims.
According to the report, the ongoing Houthi military operations have caused extensive damage to residential properties, mosques, hospitals, and schools. Furthermore, critical public and private infrastructure has been severely degraded or destroyed, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis caused by the group’s prolonged siege of the city.
In addition to physical attacks, the center documented the abduction of 37 citizens from their homes and workplaces across the southern and western districts of rural Taiz during the same period. These actions have contributed to the forced displacement of tens of thousands of families from their villages, neighborhoods, and internal displacement camps.
The Taiz Rights Center warned that the persistence of these violations and the continuous blockade have led to a catastrophic deterioration of living conditions for civilians. The organization called for urgent international attention to the humanitarian situation, which continues to worsen as the militia intensifies its military campaign against the region.
