Saudi Defense Forces Intercept Four Drones Over Riyadh and Medina

The Saudi Ministry of Defense announced on Thursday the interception and destruction of four unmanned aerial vehicles targeting the regions of Riyadh and Medina, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing wave of hostilities directed at the Kingdom.

Brigadier General Turki Al-Maliki, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, confirmed the operation in a statement published via the X platform. While the military did not disclose specific details regarding the exact interception coordinates or potential damages, the action reflects the continued defensive posture of Saudi forces against persistent aerial incursions.

This development follows a series of similar incidents reported throughout October. Prior to Thursday’s announcement, defense systems had successfully engaged a drone over Riyadh, adding to a broader pattern of escalation that has seen over ten unmanned aircraft launched toward the Kingdom in recent weeks, including several threats neutralized near Medina.

The Houthi militia has significantly intensified its offensive operations throughout the month, targeting critical infrastructure, including airports and oil facilities. These persistent attacks represent a grave security challenge for the region, particularly following a lethal strike on October 10 that targeted the Riyadh airport, resulting in 13 fatalities and over 100 injuries.
