Intense Clashes Erupt on Multiple Fronts in Taiz

Taiz governorate has witnessed a rapid escalation in hostilities on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, as government forces engaged in fierce battles to repel infiltration attempts by Houthi militias across the western and southern sectors of the city.

Field reports indicate that the fighting is concentrated along several critical axes, primarily at the city's western entrance and in the rural districts to the south and east. Violent confrontations are ongoing in the Al-Dhabab area, specifically surrounding Mount Han, Al-Sayahi, and Mount Hadhran, which overlook the strategic road connecting the western part of the city. Military sources confirmed that government forces successfully pushed back militia elements from the Al-Maqahaya region and currently maintain control over the high ground overlooking the Al-Hangar checkpoint.

In addition to the western front, intense artillery exchanges and direct combat have been reported in the Al-Shaqab and Al-Aqroud sectors, situated to the southeast of Taiz. To the south, government forces successfully compelled Houthi units to withdraw from the Al-Sarari region following a series of sharp engagements.

Addressing circulating rumors regarding the status of the Al-Hangar checkpoint, government officials explicitly denied claims that the militia has seized the site. Military sources clarified that the area remains a fluid combat zone characterized by constant tactical maneuvering, with government troops stationed on adjacent ridges to secure the vital artery and prevent any potential incursions.

The clashes have resulted in significant casualties among the Houthi ranks. Among the notable losses is the death of senior Houthi commander Abdullah bin Yahya al-Fariq. A prominent figure within the militia, al-Fariq had previously led combat operations across several fronts, including Nihm, Al-Bayda, and Al-Makha, before his recent deployment to command units in the Taiz sector, where he was killed during the fighting.
