Yemen Government Announces Quartet Committee for Qahtan's Status

The Yemeni government's chief negotiator, Hadi Al-Haij, announced that efforts are underway to resolve the case of political detainee Mohammed Qahtan through a joint committee comprising representatives from the government, Houthi militia, Qahtan's family, and the International Committee of the Red Cross. The committee's primary objective is to ascertain his health condition.

Al-Haij stated in televised remarks to Saba channel that the recent round of negotiations prioritized Qahtan's case, leading to an agreement to form a quartet committee tasked with visiting him and preparing a report on his health status. He added that the committee, chaired by negotiator Hassan Al-Kobeisi, has initiated contact with the Houthi militia to arrange a date and mechanism for the visit, which was initially scheduled for the past few days.

According to Al-Haij, the Houthi side requested a temporary postponement of the visit pending the finalization of arrangements concerning the timing and implementation mechanism. He indicated that the committee is still awaiting the confirmation of a definitive date, with expectations that the visit could be completed within the coming week.

The chief negotiator emphasized that the objective of this initiative is to verify Mohammed Qahtan's health situation and achieve progress on one of the most significant humanitarian files related to prisoners and detainees in Yemen.
