Houthi Official Accused of Throwing Daughter, 13, into Well in Yemen

A 13-year-old girl has died in Yemen's Al-Jawf Governorate after reportedly being thrown into a well on her father's farm, a case that has sent shockwaves through the local community. The father, identified as a Houthi official, is accused of the act following ongoing family disputes.

Local sources indicate that the incident occurred in the Wadi Al-Uraid area of Al-Jabeen district. The girl's father is alleged to have thrown her into the well located within his property amid years of marital discord.

According to reports, the girl's mother had previously left the marital home due to family disputes and obtained a court order for divorce. However, the enforcement of this ruling was reportedly delayed, prolonging the conflict.

The girl had recently expressed a desire to visit her mother, a request her father allegedly refused. This refusal is said to have escalated existing tensions, culminating in the tragic event that led to her death.

Conversely, the father has denied responsibility, claiming that villagers threw the girl into the well. This assertion is met with skepticism by local residents, particularly as the well is situated within his private farm, enclosed by a wall and a locked gate.

The girl's body has been placed in a hospital morgue. As of now, no official statement has been released detailing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
